MATT's Van: treatment that meets people where they are.
Bridges Healthcare's Mobile Addiction Treatment Team brings opioid treatment directly to the street. We built the vehicle that makes it possible: a private, professional consultation space with all day power, satellite internet, and climate control in every season.
The challenge, the solution
The Challenge
The first steps toward recovery can be the hardest. Making an appointment at a clinic, waiting to be seen, proving insurance: every step is a barrier, and every barrier loses people. Bridges Healthcare set out to remove them with a mobile addiction treatment team that goes to locations of high need, no appointment necessary, no insurance required, free to anyone over 18.
The Program
Clients who walk up to MATT's Van are seen immediately by a recovery coach and a prescriber. Prescriptions for Suboxone are written on the van, often with same day inductions, reducing withdrawal symptoms and the chance of relapse. Clients get access to a peer counselor, a Narcan overdose reversal kit, referral to a treatment center like Bridges, and transportation to a pharmacy to fill the prescription.
The Build
The vehicle had to feel professional and private, not clinical and not intimidating, and it had to run a full day of services with no shore power. We built a Sprinter with a front consultation workspace, swivel seating, and removable tables that reconfigure for intake, counseling, or telehealth. All seasons insulation with sound dampening keeps conversations private and the interior comfortable through Northeast winters and summers. An upgraded battery system, satellite internet that's always on, and climate control that runs without the engine mean the team works wherever the need is, as Connecticut's first mobile addiction treatment team of its kind.
